For starters, you have to remember that the
body mass index is a scientific approach to determine if you have a healthy
weight based on your size. There may also be inconsistencies in regards to the
BMI number which are affected by age, gender and even muscle mass. Remember
that a healthcare professional has specialized training as well as more
advanced tools for determining if you have a healthy weight and whether or not
you need a diet. If you are positive that the different
variables associated with the BMI number does not affect you and that you are
truly over or under weight, then a healthy diet should be added to your daily
lifestyle, but please remember to also consult a healthcare professional. To break down the types of diets you would
need if you are going by your body mass index, we must first cover the basics
of metabolism and calories. For example, let’s say that your BMI is a 22,
putting you in the under weight category, it would then be important to
increase your daily calorie intake, as calories include fats that your body
needs to store and therefore raising your weight into an ideal BMI. However, if
your BMI is a 39, then quite the opposite is needed. Protein intake is
essential to the body; it is in your protein intake that allows your metabolism
to increase and therefore burning off extra weight becomes easier. The only problem with the two, is that you
will generally find both together, so it is important, to pay attention to
ensure that one or the other is greater based on your body’s needs for raising
or lowering your weight. Sure, if you are over weight you can try a
negative calorie diet, but why. Eating items like celery, which although
filling, is not digestible by the human body. Believe it or not, you have a
better chance of lowering your body weight if that celery you are eating has
peanut butter. It will bring back old times from school and child hood when you
start snacking on “Ants on a Log” but this is also very healthy. The celery
itself has no calories, while the peanut butter is high in protein, the item
your body needs in order to increase your metabolism. Now if you are under weight, it may also
cause health risks but increasing your weight safely is just as important as
losing weight in a safe manner. Lets say for example that you are 20 pounds
under the ideal BMI for your height, sure you can jus go out to an all you can
east buffet everyday until that weight increases, but unfortunately if dine
incorrectly, you may not stop at that ideal mark and instead go over. Remember, being healthy also means that if
you need to gain or loose weight, you must also do this in a healthy way or it
is just going to end up hurting your goals in the long run.
